Our take

Brown Diamond opens with a sharp aldehydic lift that can feel thin and slightly abrasive next to the bright orange. The synthetic edge is immediate and may put off those who prefer a rounded, natural citrus. Once that top layer settles, the heart introduces patchouli and labdanum, which add weight and a resinous depth. Sea water sits among them, contributing a cool, mineral facet that keeps the resin from becoming too heavy. The transition is not seamless, as the sparkling opening and the darker middle sometimes sit side by side rather than blending into a single line.

The base carries copahu balm, sandalwood, and guaiac wood, building a dry, woody foundation that feels warm and slightly earthy. The balsamic accord lingers here, tying the resinous heart to the wood. Throughout, the aldehydes remain present in the background, creating a faint metallic shimmer that never fully disappears. This persistent brightness is the fragrance's main drawback, because it prevents the woods and amber from feeling fully smooth. The result is a composition that stays a little restless, with the sparkling top notes and the deep base pulling in different directions.
