Sweet Smoke opens with a fistful of dried tobacco leaf, dusty and faintly grassy, but before you can decide if that’s too austere, a rush of vanilla and dark roast coffee floods in and blurs every sharp edge. The middle phase is where this fragrance does its real work: the tonka bean and tobacco blossom turn the sweetness sticky and almost honeyed, while the wood resin and dried fruits in the base anchor everything in a jammy, balsamic warmth. The overall effect is like curling up in a leather armchair at a dimly lit jazz club, where someone left a cherry pipe smoldering in an ashtray next to a half-empty espresso cup.
It leans heavy and unabashedly sweet, more gourmand than smoky despite the name, and feels polished rather than daring.
