Boss Orange opens on a single, simple note: red apple, bright and a little candy-like, before African orange flower and white flowers move in underneath it. Launched in 2009, it comes across as an easy, casual citrus floral built for everyday wear rather than a formal occasion, the kind of scent that belongs in a gym bag as much as a handbag.
Vanilla and sandalwood round out the base with a soft, powdery sweetness, and a trace of olive tree adds a faint green, slightly bitter edge underneath it. A soft animalic hum sits low in the base too, easy to miss entirely next to the apple and orange flower up top, and it never grows loud enough to compete with them.
Staying power is middling, the apple and orange flower thinning at a fairly even pace, and it sits as a private, skin-hugging scent, noticed mostly by the wearer. It suits warm daylight hours best, spring through early fall, working well as a light everyday layer more than a scent meant to fill out an evening. A red apple left on a school desk, sweet and already a little bruised at the edges, says as much about it as any list of notes could.
