Our take

Granny Smith apple leads Hugo Woman straight into nineties fruity-floral territory, tart and green before melon and peach round the edge into something juicier, with a faint whisper of cassis underneath. That opening fades at an unhurried, middling pace, and the whole thing stays fairly private, a modest bubble that suits a desk or a car more than an entrance.

Water hyacinth, lily and jasmine carry the heart, aquatic and slightly powdery, with orris adding a soft, cosmetic finish, the kind of powdery you get from a good bar of soap. Papaya and melon linger at the edges longer than the apple, giving the top notes a rounder, more tropical feel before the florals take over. Cedar and sandalwood show up late, joined by vanille and amber, but they stay in the background, never pushing the fruit and florals aside.

Save it for spring and summer daylight, since the fresh fruit and aquatic florals suit warm weather more than cold or evening settings. It stays easy and unchallenging throughout, more a pleasant daily habit than a conversation piece, well suited to an office desk more than a night out.
