Our take

Roses des Vents Ouest opens with African orange flower and tangerine. Anise sits beside them and adds a cool, green edge to the bright citrus. The start feels clean and lifted, with the orange flower giving a soft petal texture while the tangerine provides a clear, juicy surface.

Jasmine and ylang-ylang form the center. Lotus adds a faint watery quality, and ginger brings a warm lift that keeps the white petals from sitting flat. Marigold adds a slight herbal touch that prevents the florals from becoming too rounded. The heart stays sweet and white, with the yellow floral character of ylang-ylang growing steadier as it settles.

Vetiver and Virginia cedar give the base a dry, woody frame. Musk smooths the edges, while tonka bean and vanilla carry the sweetness through the final stage. The vanilla is warm rather than sugary, and the cedar keeps it from feeling heavy. The woody accord remains present beneath the floral and sweet elements.

The ginger in the heart can feel sharp against the soft jasmine and vanilla. The anise also reads strongly next to the orange flower, which may distract from the gentle floral idea. The mix of cool spice and warm vanilla does not always sit in balance, and the ginger can dominate when the air is warm.
