Our take

Reve opens with a crisp, almost glassy burst of pear and neroli, like biting into a chilled fruit salad on a patio where the flowers are still wet with morning dew. That initial freshness is pure Van Cleef polish, a bit too perfect for its own good. The pear comes off as a little synthetic, a glossy candy note that doesn’t quite breathe, but the neroli cuts through with just enough bitterness to keep things from tipping into cloying. Then the heart emerges, a gentle wash of peony and lily with osmanthus lending its apricot-tinged leathery undertone. This is where the fragrance finds its rhythm: a soft, powdery floral that feels composed and polite, like a silk scarf knotted just so. The drydown leaves a whisper of sandalwood and amber, warm but barely present.

That whisper is the problem. With longevity hovering around three out of five and sillage even lower, Reve is a fragrance that asks you to lean in and then apologizes for itself. It’s unmistakably mainstream, a safe, pretty floral that stays so close to the skin it feels more like a memory of perfume than the thing itself. The overall character is a bouquet left in a sunlit library, pretty and unobtrusive, but fading before the page is turned.

Who should wear it? Someone who wants a pleasant, inoffensive spring day scent for brunch or a quiet office, where presence is a suggestion rather than a statement. Who should skip it? Anyone who wants to be smelled, or who craves depth and intrigue. It’s a delicate little thing, and delicate things don’t travel far.
