Our take

Outrecuidant opens with a squirt of canned pineapple and grapefruit, that sweet tropical fizz quickly darkened by cassis. The fruit is not fresh, it is syrupy and deliberate. Then the heart arrives, saffron and cardamom, a warm spicy duet that wraps the orange blossom in a dusty haze. This is where the fragrance shows its hand, a leather note that smells less like a new jacket and more like the worn interior of an old car, vinyl and sweat. The base is all patchouli and labdanum, earthy and resinous, with a woody whisper of cedar and sandalwood. The overall character is a leather armchair that has been doused in fruit punch and left to dry in a smoky room.

It is a heavy composition, leaning sweet and animalic, but the sillage is polite at 3.17 out of five, meaning you get the warmth without announcing yourself from across the bar. Longevity is respectable, about four to six hours before it settles into a skin scent. The 3.72 rating reflects a divisive nature, it is niche in its refusal to clean up the rough edges. That pineapple opening can feel synthetic to some, and the leather here is not the refined suede of many designer releases.

This one suits a confident evening wearer in fall or winter, someone who enjoys a little grit with their sweetness. Skip it if you prefer fresh or clean fragrances, or if fruit and leather together sound like a contradiction. Wear it to a dinner where the conversation is as layered as the scent. One vivid image, a carnival tent where a dusty saddle sits next to a bowl of ripe mangoes.
