Our take

Nutmeg cracks open the top of Santal Calling with a sharp, almost peppery warmth, but it softens immediately into a cloud of iris and milk. The iris is powdery, not floral in a dewy way, more like crushed violet petals dusted over a saucer of warm milk. Beneath it all, the sandalwood sits creamy and calm, wrapped in a gauze of musk and vanilla. The whole effect lands somewhere between a cashmere throw that's been lightly spritzed with a spice cabinet and the ghost of a chai latte left to cool on a marble counter. It is intimate, barely above a whisper, with sillage that stays close to the skin and longevity that asks for reapplication after four hours.

Antoine Maisondieu has built something deliberately soft here, and that is both its charm and its limitation. This is not a fragrance that announces your arrival; it rewards those who lean in. The lactonic milk note could tip into play-doh territory on some skin, but the drydown stays refined, gently woody and musky, never sweet enough to feel cloying. It leans natural, almost like a second skin, but the synthetic powder sits just barely on the surface.

Who should wear it? Someone who likes their sandalwood veiled, not jammy, and who prefers a featherlight touch over a sledgehammer. Skip it if you want projection or a dense winter gourmand. This is a daytime scent for crisp fall afternoons, pollen-dusted spring mornings, or a quiet winter study where only you smell yourself. Would it survive a night out? Probably not, and that is the point.
