Black Oud
Fragrance notes
Character
Black Oud opens with a slap of cumin and nutmeg so sharp it feels like a spice trader’s knife fight, the incense barely catching the smoke before the agarwood lunges in, dark and medicinal, with labdanum slicking everything like animal sweat. The base thickens into a leathery, barnyard tangle of civet and castoreum, softened just enough by amber and vanilla to keep it from turning feral. This is not a polite fragrance. It is a leather jacket left in a rain-soaked saddlebag for three days, the smell of a campfire that roasted something that had been living wild. The sweetness is a bruised, resinous whisper beneath the smoke, and the whole composition feels aggressively natural in its dirtiness, niche in the way that demands you own the scent rather than wear it. Longevity holds strong at nearly four hours, but the sillage stays close to the skin after the first hour, which is a mercy if you overspray and a frustration if you want to trail. This is strictly for cold winter nights, worn to a jazz club or a late walk where the air bites back. Skip it if you prefer clean, fresh, or anything that doesn’t smell like it might bite you.
