Our take

Malefic Tattoo opens with a flicker of saffron and cinnamon, a heat that curls into incense smoke and pepper before you can pin it down. The labdanum here isn't syrupy; it is a dark, balsamic resin that clings to the skin like dried ink. Within minutes, the oud and amber emerge, but this is not a barnyard blast or a medicinal screech. This oud is a polished, almost leathery wood, softened by the cashmere and sandalwood in the base. The drydown settles into a warm, musky patchouli with a persistent, slightly smoky styrax. The overall character is that of an old, hand-illustrated tarot card kept in a leather wallet, the edges stained from handling.

It feels thoroughly niche, leaning heavy and resinous rather than sweet. There is a synthetic smoothness to the cashmere wood that keeps it wearable, but the composition is dense enough to choke in a stuffy room. Longevity is moderate, about six hours on my skin, and sillage sits close after the first hour, which suits its introspective mood. This is for someone who wants to smell like a ritual, not a party. It suits the leather-jacket-and-scarves crowd, best worn in the deep autumn or winter evenings when the air has a bite. Skip it if you prefer bright citrus or clean laundry scents, and do not overspray unless you intend to meditate in a blanket of resin.
