L' IAM opens with a sharp slice of orange cutting through a dense block of dark chocolate. The brightness does not last long before the room fills with roasted coffee, bitter cacao, and a splash of cognac. Almond and tobacco round out the heart, giving the blend a dry, slightly powdered edge that keeps the opening from feeling like a candy bar.
Composed by Hoang Nguyen, this oriental vanilla leans into heavy materials. Honey and vanilla smooth the bitter coffee and chocolate, while ambergris, amber, and patchouli add a warm, animalic depth. Leather sits underneath it all, making the fragrance feel more suited to a dimly lit bar in cool weather than to a bright morning commute. It is rich, slightly messy, and unapologetically indulgent.
The density is also where the fragrance stumbles. The many heavy ingredients crowd each other, so no single element truly stands out once the initial orange fades. Sweetness and spice compete without finding a clear balance, and the result can feel overwhelming on skin that prefers clean or subtle compositions.
