Our take

Dominican Tobacco opens with a bold slap of tobacco leaf, cinnamon’s dusty heat, and a lavender that’s more aromatic barbershop than pillow spray. The heart lets guaiac wood smoke and a faintly waxy orchid bloom through, while the base cozies up with saffron’s leathery sweetness, bergamot’s bitter twist, and neroli’s honeyed floral. This is a well-worn leather armchair in a dimly lit study, the ashtray still warm. It feels heavy, sweet, and woody, with a synthetic sheen that keeps it from smelling like a real cigar shop — more polished, more perfume-y, yet still pleasingly niche in its density.

Longevity is excellent, hugging skin for eight hours or more, but sillage sits close. You’ll get a whiff of yourself all day; nobody across the room will. That makes it an ideal personal scent for cold weather. Winter is its true home, though fall evenings work too, and the 87% night preference is spot on — this is for dinner dates, fireside drinks, or a solitary walk in December air.

Skip it if you crave fresh, airy scents or hate the sweet-spicy tobacco axis. If you love a boozy, cinnamon-laced tobacco with a twist of florals, this is worth your time. One caveat: the orchid and neroli can turn a bit powdery in heat, so keep it for the chill.
