Our take

Knight of oud opens with a noticeable synthetic edge that sits on the skin before the deeper materials arrive. The wool and ambergris combination feels a little rough at first, lending a scratchy texture to the early minutes that some will find off-putting. Thailand oud adds a resinous weight, while tonka bean tries to smooth the surface with a soft, powdery sweetness. This introduction lacks grace and can smell more like a chemical attempt at warmth than a natural embrace. Those who prefer clean, polished openings will struggle here, as the start feels muddied and indistinct rather than inviting.

As the fragrance moves forward, sandalwood and incense steady the composition, letting jasmine sambac add a creamy white floral layer. Heart oud grows darker, metting cambodian oud in the base to create a dense, balsamic woodiness. Vanilla rounds the edges without making the blend sweet, and the smoky accord hangs in the background throughout. The materials improve after the opening settles, but the initial sharpness never fully disappears and it limits how often this feels wearable. It suits a quiet evening indoors when the air is cool, where the heavy resin and wood feel appropriate. The synthetic start remains the reason to sample first, because the rough opening prevents it from being a comfortable choice for everyone.
