Our take

Shahbanu by Azari Parfumery is not a quiet companion. The opening ylang-ylang and bergamot arrive with a bright, sunny lift, but the vanilla and black currant underneath push the blend toward a heavy sweetness that can feel overwhelming. Labdanum adds a resinous weight early on, so the first impression is rich and golden rather than airy. This is a fragrance that demands attention from the very first spray, and that intensity is part of its identity.

The heart turns toward incense and rhubarb, with black pepper and coriander adding a sharp, green bite to the smoke. Mate and sandalwood smooth the edges, but the transition does not lighten the composition. It remains dense and resinous, moving through a balsamic tunnel where the citrus top notes feel like a memory. The amber and oud in the base anchor the scent in a deep, woody warmth, supported by tonka bean, benzoin, and myrrh. Ambroxan gives the blend a modern, crystalline finish that keeps it from feeling dated.

The limitation here is the density. Shahbanu is a full, opulent oriental vanilla that can easily feel too much for daily wear. It suits cooler evenings and formal occasions where a bold statement is welcome, but anyone who prefers a light, sheer floral will find it suffocating. The sweetness is persistent and the smoke is thick, so this is a choice for those who want to be enveloped, not for those who like to leave a little space in the air.
