Eterno opens with a sharp, peppery citrus that feels like cracking a peppercorn over a freshly cut bergamot rind. That initial brightness is brief, though, as the heart quickly swells into a dense, resinous amber church incense, opoponax and labdanum smoldering with a faintly sweet heliotrope powder. This fragrance is a dark chapel floor worn smooth by centuries of footsteps, the warm, smoky air thick with leather and fir resin. The sweetness is there, but it’s an old, dusty sweetness, not a youthful one. It dries down into a woody, leathery base that clings close to skin, with cypriol adding an earthy, almost medicinal edge that keeps things interesting. The longevity is excellent, easily eight hours, but the sillage is moderate, which is actually a strength here; this scent is a companion, not a proclamation. It is a niche woody chypre with a natural, balsamic character that feels crafted, not synthetic. Best worn when the temperature drops, especially in winter and fall, and it works beautifully for evenings and formal occasions. Perfect for someone who wants to smell like a well-worn leather journal kept in an old monastery. Skip it if you crave fresh, aquatic or casual scents, the weight and complexity here demand a certain mood. Its only weakness is that the opening can be a bit austere, but patience rewards with a deeply comforting, layered drydown.
