Our take

Bottega Veneta Pour Homme Parfum opens with a slap of green cedar and cardamom that feels less like a greeting and more like a challenge. The cardamom is sharp, almost peppery, swirled into a fir resin heart that smells of freshly split pine logs oozing sap. A brief flash of pimento adds a spicy warmth before the base pulls the whole thing into a leather armchair that has been left out in a snowstorm, damp and animalic but still luxurious. This is not an easy wear. The labdanum and tonka bean lend a sweet amber undercurrent that softens the leather, but the conifer backbone remains uncompromisingly woody and aromatic. The longevity is decent at around six hours, but the sillage sits close to the skin after the first two, which is actually a strength for an office scent or a cold weather evening. It feels natural in the sense that a forest floor is natural, but the leather has a polished synthetic edge that keeps it from being a dirt cheap hippie oil. Who should wear it? A man who does not need to shout to be noticed, someone who wears tailored coats and reads the room before entering. Skip it if you want a crowd pleaser or a summer vacay scent. This is for October through February, preferably after dark. One sniff and you are standing in a Venetian workshop, sawdust and hide, firelight and silence. 🖤
