Our take

It opens with a curious tang of tamarind and date, the fruitiness sugared but not syrupy, tangled with herbal greenery that keeps things from tipping into dessert. That leather note arrives quickly, not a raw hide but a supple, worn jacket, softened by amber and a whisper of smoky olibanum. As it settles, balsam fir and hay lend an arid, dusty sweetness, while vanilla and caramel hover just beneath, never cloying, and the oud and styrax deepen the leather into something almost animalic. The whole thing feels like running your hand over the cracked spine of a well-loved book left in a sunlit study, warm and dusty and faintly sweet.

This is a competent, comfortable oriental woody that blends natural-smelling resins with a touch of dark fruit, but it stays firmly in mainstream territory, never quite daring to be weird. The biggest problem is performance: longevity barely reaches three hours and sillage is a whisper, so you will need to reapply if you want anyone else to notice. That makes it better for close encounters than for making an entrance.

It suits someone who wants a sophisticated but unobtrusive scent for cool weather, especially fall and winter evenings. Skip it if you need projection or if you live in a hot climate, as the warmth simply evaporates it. Wear it to a dinner party where you will be sitting near people, or to a quiet night out where the person across the table will catch the occasional drift of leather and hay.
