Our take

Odile is a strange little jewel, a fragrance that opens with a startling blast of rubber and blood orange, as if someone dropped a tire into a bowl of peeled citrus. The star anise arrives quickly, softening that industrial edge with a nod to licorice and warm spice, and soon the dark chocolate emerges, not sweet or glossy but bitter, almost charcoal-like, dusted with suede and a powdery musk that clings to the skin. It develops into something tactile, like running a finger along the seam of a vintage leather jacket while holding a half-melted truffle in your other hand.

This is a heavy, deliberately synthetic gourmand, more niche art object than crowd pleaser. The chocolate and anise tug toward warmth, but the rubber and blood orange keep things dissonant and cool, a winter night scent through and through. Longevity is decent, just over three hours on average, but the sillage is modest, sitting close like a secret whispered into a wool collar. That restraint might frustrate some, but it suits the fragrance’s introverted character.

Who should wear it? Someone who loves the smoky backstage scent of a costume fitting, who finds comfort in rubber and musk rather than vanilla or caramel. Skip it if you want a sweet cozy gourmand or something that projects across a room. Wear it to a winter art opening, a late night reading in a dim cafe, or anytime you want to smell like a beautifully odd dream you can’t quite explain.
