Behind the Curtain opens with a bright mix of raspberry, black currant, black elder, and honeysuckle. The fruit is sweet and slightly tart, with the honeysuckle adding a fresh, nectar-like lift. This opening feels lively and polished, moving quickly into the denser layers that define the fragrance.
The heart introduces leather alongside litchi, cassia, peony, white amber, ylang-ylang, and exotic woods. Leather gives the blend a firm, slightly rugged character, while the litchi and peony soften the edges with a juicy, floral touch. Cassia adds gentle spice, and the white amber and woods create a warm, rounded middle.
The base is the most substantial part. Oud and patchouli bring a dark, earthy depth, while vanilla and white musk smooth the texture. Orris adds a powdery softness that ties the heavier elements together. The result is a rich, sweet, and woody drydown that feels dense and slightly animalic.
The composition is complex, but the fruit and leather can clash rather than blend. The sweetness from the top and heart sometimes fights the dry, woody base instead of settling into it. For some wearers, the mix feels crowded and lacks a clear direction.
