Our take

Vanille & Narcisse opens with a sharp, almost jammy burst of black currant and bergamot, a citrusy frisson that quickly gives way to the heart's dual floral punch. The narcissus here is earthy and slightly indolic, a green, honeyed sting that bumps against the creamy, waxy gardenia like two very different women sharing a cab. Then the base settles in: a pillow of vanilla and tonka bean that flattens the florals into something soft, powdery, and unmistakably sweet. The overall character is like a Provençal garden after a spring rain, the wet blossoms clinging to a sun-warmed stone wall, their scent both lush and restrained.

This is a thoroughly mainstream oriental floral, beautifully blended by Karine Dubreuil-Sereni, but it wears its sweetness like a heavy sweater. The longevity clocks in at a modest 3.25, and the sillage barely whispers at 2.90, which feels honest for a composition that never quite commits to being bold. It's a polite, agreeable perfume that leans safe, suiting someone who wants to smell pretty and approachable rather than provocative. Skip it if you crave projection or a radical edge.

Best worn in spring or fall, and overwhelmingly for daytime, it feels at home on a Sunday brunch, a light office day, or a lingering afternoon in the park. Is it remarkable? No, but it scratches a cozy, floral-vanilla itch without demanding attention, and sometimes that's exactly the point.
