A man leans over a stone balcony in a linen shirt, early in the day. The air is still cool but the sun is already warm on the back of his neck. He lifts one wrist to check the time and catches a scent coming off his own skin. It starts with the crunch of green things, pear skin, crushed mint, and a bright squeeze of lemon. A few steps away, someone else could notice it if they moved in close, but it does not announce itself to the whole balcony. The greenness comes from banana leaf and birch leaf, which smell like snapped stems and shade. Then the scent shifts. The juniper berries and a milky, green fig tree note come forward, smoothed out by pale jasmine and the dry, resinous sting of cypress. It feels like standing under trees in a city park. As the day goes on, the scent stays near the body. The vanilla and sandalwood in the base are dialed very low, mere ghosts of cream and wood. This is the drawback. The beautiful, crisp green opening vanishes too fast, leaving a thin, faintly powdery skin scent that lacks the weight to carry its own promise.
