Character
Illusion by Denim opens with a sharp green bite. Artemisia leads the way, joined by thyme and basil that smell like a kitchen garden after rain. The herbs are dry rather than juicy, giving the start a clean, upright posture that feels purposeful.
Sandalwood and Russian leather take over with a firm handshake. The wood is smooth and the leather is stiff, creating a scent that suits a man walking through a bright city street with a clear plan. It is herbal, aromatic, and fresh spicy, but the powdery white musk and bitter edge keep it from feeling like a casual sport scent. The blend is woody and masculine, sitting close to the skin in a way that feels personal.
The limitation here is the materials themselves. The siam benzoin and ambergris try to add depth, but the synthetic character of the white musk becomes noticeable after a while. It lacks the natural richness found in more expensive fougeres, so the scent feels a bit thin when you look for complexity.
