Our take

c 6 – Santal Tabac opens with a problem that never really goes away. The pink pepper and frankincense hit first, but the pepper feels sharp and a bit thin, and the frankincense does not smooth it out the way you expect. That early bite stays present while the tobacco leaf and cedar arrive, so the heart never feels as round as the note list promises. It is a composition that wants to be plush and resolved, yet it keeps that prickly edge near the surface.

The argument for wearing this fragrance rests on its base. Sandalwood, vanilla, and musk build a warm, powdery, amber, and balsamic foundation that feels right for a bright, cool morning when the air still carries a chill. The woody and soft spicy accords sit comfortably in that kind of light. You choose it because the drydown is genuinely inviting, and the tobacco note gives it a grounded, masculine character that works when you want to feel put together without reaching for something loud.

The flaw remains the reason to pause. Véronique Stambouli composed a fragrance whose opening and heart do not fully earn the comfort of that base. If you need a seamless transition from the first spray to the sandalwood and vanilla, this one hesitates. The pepper and frankincense create a gap the cedar and tobacco leaf cannot quite bridge, and the result is a scent you appreciate more once it settles than you do while it is getting there.
