Our take

Grapefruit and orange open the Parfum concentration of Coco Mademoiselle brighter and sharper than the citrus in the original Eau de Parfum, bergamot rounding the edges so it comes across crisp and clean from the first spray. Jacques Polge built this version to lean further into the patchouli that made the fragrance famous, and you can smell that shift coming even in this opening stretch.

Rose and jasmine carry the heart with litchi adding an unusual fruity-floral sweetness underneath, fresher and less syrupy than most rose-based orientals allow. The white floral stays restrained, framed by citrus on one side and the coming patchouli on the other, never dominating on its own.

Patchouli, vetiver and musk take over for the drydown, and here the Parfum concentration shows its purpose. The patchouli turns dry and earthy, vetiver adding a rooty edge, while vanilla stays low in the mix, warming the base without pushing it toward anything sweet. The combination holds its shape for a long stretch, the earthy-woody base still perceptible on fabric long after the citrus has gone. Sillage stays in a modest bubble, present for whoever stands close.

Wear it across the seasons; there is little in the structure that ties it to any one of them, and the patchouli-heavy base gives it enough weight for cooler months too.
