Our take

Black & Red opens with violet leaf and Sicilian citruses that feel green and bright at once. The violet leaf carries a damp, leafy edge that keeps the citrus from reading flat. Geranium and orange blossom enter next, with sage lending a dry, herbal lift that prevents the floral heart from turning soft. The base brings tonka bean, moss, cedar and vetiver together. Tonka bean adds a rounded sweetness that lingers through the drydown, while cedar and vetiver supply a clean, woody backbone. Moss deepens the finish with an earthy tone that anchors the lighter top notes. The composition stays near the skin as the hours pass, and the scent remains audible only at a short distance once the initial spray settles. The aromatic and fresh spicy accords dominate early, then give way to the woody and vanilla facets without a sharp break.

The sweetness from tonka bean grows more prominent as the day goes on, and the mossy, herbal elements gradually recede. This shift pulls the fragrance toward a vanilla-heavy register that some will find too uniform after repeated wear. The citrus and violet leaf do not return to balance it later, so the drydown lacks contrast. People who prefer a crisp aromatic profile throughout will notice the change and may lose interest before the scent fully fades. The materials smell synthetic in the opening minutes, especially the orange blossom, which feels thin next to the denser base. That early artificial edge does not ruin the experience, but it limits how natural the whole composition can feel.
