Our take

Jacqueline by Gritti opens with a sharp, almost bristling greenness. The green almond is not sweet or marzipan-like but raw, slightly bitter, with a leafy edge that the mate tea stretches into a dry, herbal bitterness. Lavender and violet leaves enter quickly, cooling the composition into something aromatic and faintly soapy, like a freshly pressed linen shirt. The freesia adds a whisper of floral powder, but the heart remains firmly herbal. Then comes the drydown. Musk, vanilla, and tonka bean melt together into a soft, creamy pillow, but the green threads never fully dissolve. The result is a fragrance that feels like a green velvet armchair in a sunlit conservatory, comfortable and refined but also a little dusty.

This is a polite scent. It stays close to the skin, with sillage around 3.00 out of 5 and longevity that fades after about five or six hours. That restraint makes it ideal for a spring afternoon or a crisp fall day, worn to a museum visit or a quiet lunch. It leans more daytime than evening. The synthetic edges are minimal, but the sweetness from the tonka and vanilla can feel a bit blunt, lacking the depth that would elevate it from a pleasant but forgettable niche offering.

Who should wear it? Someone who wants a soft, aromatic lavender anchored with nutty warmth, not a cloud of sugar or a blast of citrus. Who should skip it? Anyone who needs projection, longevity, or a scent that commands a room. This one is a whisper, not a conversation.
