Our take

Adèle launches with a tart, almost jammy hit of osmanthus and jasmine that feels like pressing your nose into a bouquet left too long in a warm car. The May rose adds a dewy sweetness, but it’s the tuberose and narcissus in the heart that take over with a creamy, slightly animalic punch. On dry down, the ambergris and cedar settle into a soft, salty-woody base that tames the flowers but never fully tames them. The overall character is a wilting garden party at dusk, the petals bruised and the champagne gone flat. It’s recognizably floral, leaning feminine and a touch retro, but the synthetic edge in the white florals keeps it from feeling like a garden wallow. The sillage is a modest 3.00, and longevity barely stretches past a few hours, which is frustrating given the price point. This is a spring and summer scent through and through, best worn on a lazy afternoon when you want to feel romantic without overwhelming a room. It suits the woman who loves a vintage soapy floral but wants something dirtier underneath. Skip it if you demand projection or if animalic jasmine makes you queasy. Can a perfume cost so much and vanish so fast? Gritti seems to think so. Wear it for yourself, not for the people who might smell it an hour later.
