Our take

Sous Bois opens with a bright, slightly bitter almond that sits beside lemon and bergamot, while violet and iris add a soft, powdery haze. The floral top is crowded but not chaotic, with rose, mimosa, ylang-ylang, orange blossom, neroli, geranium, and pink pepper weaving through the citrus in a way that feels airy rather than heavy. It reads like sunlight hitting a wall of greenery, the kind of scent that smells expensive without trying to dominate the room.

The heart settles into guaiac wood and oakmoss, supported by the resinous weight of labdanum. This is where the woody and earthy accords take hold, giving the fragrance a damp, forest-floor character that feels natural and a bit old-fashioned. Benzoin and coumarin bring a gentle sweetness to the base, but civet and vetiver keep it dry and slightly animalic, while cedar and musk ground the whole composition in a clean, masculine finish.

The citrus and floral notes fade faster than the dense woods, leaving a simpler, more one-dimensional drydown that lacks the early complexity. It suits someone who enjoys classic chypre structures and powdery florals, though the heavy use of coumarin and civet may feel dated to modern noses.
