Our take

Darkness of Cherry opens with a sharp, medicinal cherry that feels thin and slightly synthetic rather than lush. The fruit is quickly joined by cinnamon and saffron, which add a dry, spicy heat, while lily brings a pale floral lift that does little to round out the harsh top notes. This opening lacks the roundness found in more polished compositions, and the artificial edge of the cherry remains noticeable as the fragrance develops.

The heart shifts toward leather and osmanthus, with apricot and fig adding a chewy, sweet fruitiness that sits heavily against the olive note. The leather is dry and modest, supported by the nutty olive tone, but the transition from the sharp cherry to this dense middle feels abrupt. The sweetness increases here, moving the scent toward a sticky, resinous texture that some will find cloying rather than comforting.

As it settles, cypriol and smoke create an earthy, woody base alongside benzoin and musk. The smoke is mild and the benzoin adds a flat vanilla-like sweetness that does not fully blend with the remaining cherry. The overall composition feels disjointed, with the fruity top and heavy base never quite forming a cohesive whole. The synthetic cherry remains the weakest element throughout.
