Character
Babylon opens with saffron and leather threaded through guaiac wood. The saffron brings a dry, slightly metallic heat that keeps the leather from feeling heavy right away. Guaiac wood adds a resinous edge that grounds the first minutes without turning them dark.
Cocoa and rose sit at the center with tonka bean and sandalwood. The rose is muted and powdery, sitting behind the cocoa rather than leading it. Tonka bean adds a soft, almond-like warmth that blends into the creamy sandalwood beneath it.
Dark chocolate and brown sugar lead the drydown, followed by vanilla, oud, and amber. The chocolate is dense and bitter at first, then the brown sugar pulls it toward something rounder. Vanilla smooths the edges further while amber adds a resinous weight. Oud sits underneath the sweetness with a dry, woody presence that keeps the base from becoming one-dimensional. The vanilla and amber linger together as the chocolate slowly recedes.
The air feels cool and still, and the scent fits that kind of evening where the room is quiet and the light is low. Sweetness and resin build together while the leather and oud hold them in place.
