Our take

Melon, apple and peach open Paris Hilton Paris Hilton on a bright, candy-sweet fruit burst, playful in a way that instantly places it in its era. Staying power is average right from this burst, light in a way that suits its playful character, and the trail stays light and close, a small fruity cloud that moves with the wearer. There is an aquatic, slightly ozonic edge running underneath the fruit, cutting the sweetness back toward something crisper and a little synthetic, unmistakably a product of its decade.

Freesia, mimosa, jasmine, lily-of-the-valley, lily and tuberose crowd into the heart all at once, six flowers stacked with no single one allowed to lead. The effect is loud and a little unsubtle, glossy rather than refined, and that brashness is part of its charm.

Musk, ylang-ylang, sandalwood and oakmoss settle everything into a soft, slightly green base, and this is where the fragrance quietly grows up. The oakmoss adds a faint earthiness that the fruity opening never hints at, sandalwood smooths the musk into something warmer, and the finish feels gentler and less sugary than the fruity opening suggested. Ylang-ylang lingers longest of the four, faintly creamy against the mossy floor underneath it.

Warm-weather pool days suit it best, and it rewards someone who wants nostalgia and fun more than serious complexity.
