Our take

Bahia by Mutis Nueva Granada asks a lot of patience from anyone who dislikes heavy powder. The opening hits with damask rose and saffron, brightened by pink grapefruit and bergamot, but the peony barely cools the heat. Ylang-ylang and orchid push the floral side into a dense, yellow bloom that sits close to the skin in a thick cloud. Cashmeran and tonka bean add a sweet, woody softness that some will find comforting and others will find cloying. It is a fragrance that wraps around the wearer rather than floating away.

The base reveals myrrh, amber, leather, and musk, creating a resinous, warm spicy character that feels suited to a dimly lit room and a heavy knit coat. The leather is smooth rather than rugged, blending into the amber so the overall impression stays powdery and floral rather than sharply animalic. It leans into the oriental style without becoming a caricature of it, though the sweetness never really recedes. Someone who prefers clean, sheer compositions will feel overwhelmed here.

Composed by Dominique Moellhausen, this is a bold choice for a cold evening out, but the powdery weight remains the deciding factor. If heavy, sweet florals with a resinous finish sound exhausting, this bottle will sit untouched on the shelf. It is undeniably rich, yet that richness is exactly what limits who can wear it comfortably.
