Our take

Bond No 9’s Liberty Island opens with a bright, almost squeaky clean burst of mandarin and bergamot, the black currant lending a tart, jammy undercurrent that keeps the citrus from feeling too pedestrian. The heart blooms into a soft orange blossom and jasmine duet, airy and sunlit, before the base settles into a powdery marshmallow and musk cloud that feels like a cashmere sweater on a warm afternoon. The overall character is a scoop of orange sorbet melting on a sun-warmed picnic table at the Battery: sweet, clean, and gently floral, but never syrupy or cloying.

This is a pleasant, uncomplicated scent with a synthetic edge that keeps it firmly in the fresh floral gourmand lane. The sillage is modest, barely a whisper after an hour, and longevity clocks in around three to four hours before it becomes a personal skin scent. That’s the real weakness here: you’re paying Bond No 9 prices for something that evaporates before you’ve finished your morning coffee. It’s best suited for casual daytime wear in spring and summer, especially when you want a light, happy fragrance that won’t dominate a room. Who should skip it? Anyone expecting bold projection, depth, or a distinctive statement.
