Rattlesnake Musk
Fragrance notes
Character
Costus arrives with a damp, rooty bite, cut by the sharp green edge of galbanum. Bulgarian rose adds a worn, dried-petal texture rather than fresh flower sweetness. Leather appears early, not as a new jacket but as an old saddle that has absorbed years of rain and dust. Virginia cedar gives a dry, pencil-shaving crispness that keeps the opening from feeling heavy.
The base is where the fragrance truly lives. Musk and hyrax create a dense, living warmth that feels close to skin. Castoreum brings a tarry, fur-like weight that deepens the leather from earlier. Oud and Indian patchouli ground the mix with damp earth and dark wood, while sandalwood offers a smooth, creamy counterpoint to the sharper animalics. Ambergris adds a salty, mineral glint that prevents the heavy notes from becoming completely opaque. The air smells of warm fur and resinous wood, a thick atmosphere that fits a room filled with old books and heavy drapes, where the heat outside makes the cool interior feel denser.
