Our take

Maasaï Mara opens with a surprising jolt of bitter orange and chamomile, a tart, herbaceous tang that feels less like a serene savannah sunrise and more like a citrus rind rubbed over a bruised leaf. That sharpness quickly softens into a heart of dried fruits and plum, sticky and dusky, with artemisia and rose adding a faint medicinal dustiness, like crushed petals in an old apothecary jar. The drydown is where this fragrance finds its footing: cinnamon and benzoin curl around a sweet, resinous vanilla and labdanum, while patchouli and buchu introduce a slightly feral, green-tinged warmth. It smells like a leather-bound travel journal stained with spiced tea and dried flower petals, carried through a dry, dusty wind. The sweetness is present but never cloying, thanks to the herbal counterpoints, though the composition leans noticeably synthetic in its fruited middle, lacking the depth you might expect from a more expensive niche house. Longevity is modest at best, and sillage stays close to the skin after the first hour, a disappointment for a scent this spicy and amber-forward. Still, it works best as a cozy personal scent for cool autumn afternoons or winter evenings, worn by someone who prefers understated warmth over projection. Skip it if you want a bold statement; this is more a whisper lost in the grass.
