Gothic I
Fragrance notes
Character
The first spray of Gothic I is a dark sugar rush, vanilla pod and Madagascar vanilla colliding with a fistful of warm spices. It feels like biting into a clove-studded orange left to mellow on a dusty altar. The patchouli emerges slowly, not the green, hippie kind but a deep, resinous Indian variety that turns the sweetness toward the earthy and balsamic. As it dries down, a powdery, almost cosmetic softness settles in, softening the edges without losing that gothic weight. The overall character is a velvet-lined jewelry box hidden in a forgotten chapel, its hinges creaking with every opening. This is a niche-leaning oriental that feels more natural than synthetic, though its moderate longevity and modest sillage (3.57 and 3.21 respectively) mean you will need to reapply if you want it to echo beyond an intimate dinner. It is not a beast, and that is fine. It suits those who love vanilla deepened by shadow, not the sunscreen sweet kind. Skip it if you want projection or anything for humid summer afternoons. Wear it in fall and winter, especially at night, when the air is cold enough to let its warmth bloom like a taper candle in a drafty room. Could any other season truly honor a scent this devoutly dark?
