Character
Essences 49 opens with coconut, apricot and plum. The fruit is soft and ripe, and the coconut adds a creamy surface. The transition moves into a full heart of white florals. Tuberose and jasmine lead, with lily-of-the-valley and rose supporting them. Brazilian redwood and caraway sit underneath the petals, adding a dry, slightly spicy edge to the bouquet. The florals are dense and round, and the spices prevent the middle from becoming a simple flower arrangement.
The drydown is where the fragrance settles into its true character. Almond and vanilla form a thick, sweet base that feels powdery and nutty at the same time. Sandalwood gives the foundation a smooth, woody texture, while musk keeps the finish soft against the skin. The sweetness is heavy and persistent, and the almond note has a distinct marzipan quality that dominates the final stage. The composition is very sweet and quite dense, which makes it better suited to cool air and dim lighting. It is a rich scent that asks for a quiet environment. The one drawback is that the caraway and redwood are too subtle to balance the heavy vanilla and almond, so the blend leans overwhelmingly sugary.
