Desert 沙漠 is a fragrance for those who want the dry heat of spice without the comfort of sweetness. It opens with cumin and black pepper, two assertive notes that immediately signal a departure from the polished freshness found in most mainstream releases. Coriander brightens the entry, but the focus stays on the warmth of the seeds. This is not a crowd-pleasing blend. It is a study in dry, earthy tension that asks the wearer to sit with a little roughness.
The heart confirms that direction. Iris and rose arrive, but they are grounded by vetiver and patchouli rather than lifted by sugar. Lily adds a faint coolness, though sandalwood keeps the center heavy and woody. The accords list powder and violet, yet the impression is arid. The spices from the top do not fade into a soft bouquet. They linger, creating a bridge between the sharp opening and the resinous base.
That base is where the argument settles. Musk, amber, and oud provide a deep, resinous foundation that feels traditional rather than modern. The amber here is not the glowing, vanillic kind. It is dark and paired with the bitter wood of oud, reinforcing the desert theme. Yili Li composed a scent that stays true to its name by refusing to soften the edges of its ingredients.
The limitation is the narrowness of the execution. With so many notes dedicated to dry, spicy earth, the composition offers little contrast. It is unwavering in its mood, which makes it compelling for a specific moment but difficult to wear daily.
