Carmine is for the person who wants a white floral that refuses to stay polite. The opening pairs Taif rose with aldehydes that shimmer like cold air, but the heart quickly moves into jasmine sambac, tuberose, gardenia, orange blossom, heliotrope, and rose. This is not a light bouquet. The flowers feel heavy and slightly powdery, and the heliotrope pulls the whole center toward a soft, almond-like warmth. The argument for Carmine rests on how that dense floral mass meets the base. Sandalwood and cinnamon arrive with tolu balsam, osmanthus, amber, Cambodian oud, civet, and castoreum. The result is a resinous, animalic weight that pushes the flowers into a darker, more expensive space. It smells like standing in a warm, wood-paneled room while the air outside turns sharp and the lights are low. The cinnamon and castoreum give it a slightly feral edge that keeps the sweetness from ever feeling safe.
