Our take

You want a vanilla that does not smell like a bakery. Vanilla Vice opens with cognac and almond, the alcohol bright and a little sharp before the nuttiness rounds it out. It feels grown up immediately, more interested in texture than in sugar. The heart brings suede and incense alongside heliotrope, so the sweetness gains a dusty, slightly smoky edge. Madagascar vanilla and tonka bean anchor the base with ambergris adding a salty lift, keeping the blend from becoming flat. The vanilla here is deep and resinous, not a whipped topping.

Pierre Flores and Bertrand Duchaufour built something that stays with you through a long evening without announcing itself from across the room. The suede and amber notes cling to fabric and skin in a way that feels personal. It suits a dimly lit courtyard in crisp air, a heavy sweater pulled over clean linen, or a quiet dinner where the conversation runs late. The warmth of the balsamic accord matches that kind of night perfectly, offering comfort without demanding attention from everyone nearby.

It is powdery and woody in equal measure, a scent that feels like a well worn leather chair placed next to a window while rain taps the glass.
