Lord of Games does not pretend to be an easy introduction to oud. The heart is crowded with tobacco leaf, rum, cinnamon, nutmeg, leather, labdanum, vanilla, peony, rose and immortelle, and the result is heavy before it settles. Someone who prefers clean citrus or transparent florals will find this mix dense and unyielding. The opening of bergamot and black currant leaf is bright, but it quickly gives way to that thick, resinous heart, and the transition is sudden rather than gradual.
The argument for wearing it is that the density is the point. Cedar, vetiver, sandalwood and amber in the base steady the spices instead of letting them drift, and the leather and oud give the blend a dry, grounded texture beneath the sweeter notes. It suits a wearer who wants a fragrance that feels composed and deliberate, not airy or casual. Cold evenings and formal occasions are the right fit here, while hot days or close indoor settings make the spices feel overwhelming.
This is a study in carved wood and spice, polished until the grain shows through the resin.
