A heavy door closes behind you. The hallway is dim, lit only by the glow of streetlamps through a tall window, and the air carries the dry heat of old wood and stone. Black pepper and Sichuan pepper hit first, sharp and bright against the quiet. Aldehydes give the opening a clean, metallic edge, while cassis adds a faint dark fruit that feels more like shadow than sugar. Cedar and hinoki wood settle in quickly, joined by oakmoss and hay that smell of dried grass and earth. The room feels grounded, the kind of space where a coat thrown over a chair holds the scent of the day.
Frankincense and violet leaf drift through the wood, with orris and labdanum adding a soft, powdery weight. White musk, Peru balsam, and tonka bean bring a gentle sweetness, while leather, guaiac wood, oud, and amber push the base into deep, resinous territory. The mix is rich and layered, but the aldehydes and pepper never quite let the heavier notes sit calmly. The composition feels crowded, as if too many ideas are competing for the same space, and the result lacks a clear center.
