Our take

Hanae by Hanae Mori opens like a basket of glossy red apples and black currants tumbling over a spring garden, the tart fruitiness sharpened by bergamot and softened by orange blossom. As it settles, the heart turns into something altogether more indulgent: wild strawberry and toffee wrap around a surprisingly demure patchouli, while jasmine and tea rose keep the sweetness from tipping into candy floss territory. The dry down is a warm, powdery embrace of vanilla and benzoin over sandalwood and white cedar, the whole composition feeling like a cashmere scarf dusted with brown sugar.

This is not a bombshell. With moderate projection and longevity hovering around three out of five, it wears close to the skin, a quiet charmer rather than a room filler. Its character is that of a sunlit picnic on a tartan blanket: strawberries, woodsmoke from a distant fire, and the faint resinous warmth of amber. The sweetness is plush and undeniably mainstream, but the patchouli and earthy notes keep it from becoming cloying.

Best deployed in spring or autumn during the day, it suits someone who loves dessert-floral hybrids and prefers intimacy over announcement. Skip it if you crave beast mode performance or find toffee and strawberry too candied for adult wrists. It is a delicate, pleasant sweater, not a coat.
