Empress by Soki London opens with a burst of wild strawberry that is less fruit-picking in a sunlit field and more sticky jam left to warm on a radiator. That initial sweetness is immediate, almost syrupy, but the heart reveals itself quickly with a polished rose and peony duo that never feels dewy or natural. Instead, this is a flower arrangement kept in a dry, air-conditioned room, all structure and no petal-softness. The dry down is where things get interesting, though not entirely coherent. Patchouli provides a woody, earthy anchor, but the popcorn and toffee notes wander in like unexpected guests, turning the base into a sweet, buttery caramel that clings to the skin like a fairground treat that has been sitting in a handbag for too long.
The overall character is a pink velvet booth at a roller disco, sticky floors and fake glitter everywhere, fun but a little cheap in the light of day. It feels synthetic in the best mainstream way, designed to please a crowd rather than challenge anyone. The longevity is decent, around the 3.8 mark, but the sillage hovers at moderate, polite enough for the office but not for a dramatic entrance. This is a spring and fall scent, and it performs much better at night when the cloying edges soften. It suits someone who loves sweet gourmands but wants a floral alibi. Skip it if you demand complex naturals or find popcorn a distraction in perfume. Wear it to a dinner date or a night out where you want to smell like dessert without apologizing.
