Laiks opens with a bright, slightly metallic flash of aldehydes that lifts lemon and bergamot into a crisp, airy height. Linden blossom and lily-of-the-valley bring a honeyed green softness, while black currant adds a tart, almost jammy edge that keeps the start from feeling too polished. Cyclamen contributes a clean, watery facet that makes the entrance feel freshly laundered rather than heavy.
The heart settles into a classic floral bouquet where rose and jasmine lead, supported by the powdery warmth of heliotrope and iris. Hay and juniper introduce a dry, grassy bitterness that cuts through the sweetness, giving the blend a slightly rustic, vintage character. Hyacinth adds a cool, green sharpness that keeps the middle from becoming a simple rose perfume.
Composed by Sabina Schwimmer and Ilya Gerchikov and launched in 1992, this Dzintars creation carries the unmistakable structure of its era. The base of musk, vanilla, sandalwood, and patchouli provides a creamy, woody foundation, but the hay and aldehydes can turn scratchy on the skin. The powdery accords may feel dated to those who prefer modern, transparent scents, and the overall composition lacks the smooth blending found in contemporary niche releases.
