Guardian
Fragrance notes
Character
Guardian opens with a clash that never quite settles. The clary sage and shiso feel dusty and sharp at the same time, and the spruce adds a resinous bite that scratches the nose rather than soothes it. Bergamot tries to lift the edges, but it cannot smooth the rough texture that dominates the first hour. This is not a gentle herbal start. It feels like walking into a cabin that has been shut up too long, where the dried bundles hanging from the rafters have turned brittle and the air is thick with stale resin. The pine and balsam fir in the heart lean into that dryness instead of freshening it, so the space stays dim even as the light hits the wooden floor.
The base pulls the scene deeper into the earth. Patchouli and oakmoss bring a damp soil note that sits under the amber and sandalwood, while the Haitian vetiver adds a clean root edge. Muhuhu and juniper twist through the heavier woods, and the mushroom accord gives the floorboards a cool, shadowed dampness that feels real against the boots. Cypress and Himalayan nard keep the green thread alive, and the oud provides a quiet, dark timber that does not overwhelm the room. The scent stays near the body as it moves through the space, and it remains present for a reasonable span without ever reaching beyond the immediate air around the wearer.
The problem is that the sage never softens. It stays scratchy and thin, so the cabin never warms up the way a forest retreat should. The herbal bite holds its ground against the richer woods, and the result feels unfinished, as if the door is still stuck ajar.
