Character
Galbanum opens Safari with a bracing, green snap, marigold and narcissus close behind it, a fistful of black currant and citrus rounding out the green edge. It's an assertive start for a Ralph Lauren release, more grassy hillside than tropical adventure despite the name. Marigold brings a slightly bitter, herbaceous edge that adds real character to the opening, and the citrus keeps the green readable rather than harsh.
The heart folds in more narcissus alongside orris root, rosemary, rose, jasmine and orange blossom, a green-floral center that stays sharp, never sliding into powder. There's a herbal snap running through the whole middle stretch, orange blossom offering the only real sweetness in an otherwise green, aromatic heart.
Vetiver, amber, sandalwood, cedar and patchouli ground the drydown in something warm and earthy. Persistence is a real strength here, the composition holding firm well past its opening act, and it keeps a small, steady presence around you, noticed by whoever stands close.
