Our take

Juniper and basil open sharp and green, with artemisia and caraway giving the top a bitter, herbal snap before bergamot softens the edges. It reads as outdoorsy from the first minute, more forest than garden.

Pine needles and leather move into the heart, turning dry and slightly sharp against the pepper and geranium, while carnation and jasmine keep a thread of floral warmth alive under all that green. Chamomile softens the transition just slightly, though it never gets much of a chance to sweeten things.

Tobacco, oakmoss, and patchouli build the base into something properly woody and earthy, and it is here the fragrance shows a long-lasting side, the leather and vetiver holding their ground well after the citrus top has gone quiet. Amber and musk broaden the trail, giving it real reach, the kind of presence people register as you pass. Carlos Benaïm composed it back in 1978, and the structure still shows that decade's taste for bitter openings.

Fall and winter, cold air and heavier layers, are where this composition does its best work, worn as easily to a desk as on a walk outdoors. Men who like their aromatics dry and a touch bitter will find plenty of that here, built for cold weather rather than anything sweet or tropical.
