Our take

Black Cube opens with a bright, almost aggressive sputter of pink pepper and mandarin, but lavender and cardamom immediately pull it into a cooler, more aromatic register. That brisk top note is the perfume equivalent of stepping into a stone courtyard in Marrakech at dusk, where the heat of the day still radiates from the walls but the first sharp breeze carries incense and spice. The heart deepens into a smoky, leathery oud buoyed by amber and a ghost of violet, which keeps the oud from turning brutish. On the dry down, cedar and benzoin soften everything into a powdery, balsamic warmth with a faint nutty sandalwood hum. This is a polished, well-blended Oriental Woody that feels more niche than mainstream. It is not sweet: the spices stay dry, the oud is restrained, and the lavender gives it an almost barbershop crispness before the smoke takes over. Longevity is moderate, about four to five hours, and sillage sits close to the skin for the later stages, which suits its introspective character. Who should wear this? Anyone who likes their oud filtered through lavender and clean woods, who wants a cold-weather scent that feels like a dark wool coat rather than a fur stole. Skip it if you crave projection bombs or sticky sweet gourmands. Wear it for evening dinners in fall and winter, when the air has a bite and you want something quietly magnetic. 🌒
