Our take

Golden Fever opens with a jolt of green, galbanum snapping like a wet stem, while black pepper adds a prickly warmth and ylang ylang glows somewhere behind it, an amber light through a dusty window. The heart is a dense tangle of narcissus, Turkish rose, and jasmine, all powdery and slightly narcotic, the kind of floral arrangement that feels more like a memory than something fresh. Then the base sinks in with patchouli’s earthy funk, brown sugar’s sticky sweetness, and a quiet oud that never roars, just hums beneath the powdery musk. The overall character is a vintage chypre rebuilt for a humid night in late spring or early autumn, like an old cinema seat upholstered in crushed velvet, warm and a little musty, with someone’s forgotten lipstick melting in the dark. It feels natural but dressed up, leaning niche but not aggressively so. The problem is performance: longevity fades after a few hours, and sillage stays close, which is disappointing for a composition this rich. Who should wear it? Someone who wants a softened, sweet floral with an earthy backbone, who appreciates nuance over projection. Skip it if you need a beast or expect clean, crisp notes. Wear it for a garden party at dusk, a rainy afternoon in a café, or anytime you want to smell like a vintage brooch with a secret.
